Reality check

A recent, lighthearted vox pop video capturing street interviews with health science and nursing students provided a humorous yet eye-opening reality check on current public health literacy. When asked a seemingly straightforward question "What is One Health?" tomorrow's medical professionals met the camera with blank stares.

Modernizing the framework

According to the One Health High-Level Expert Panel: "One Health is an integrated, unifying approach. It aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems." These three domains do not exist in separate vacuums — they are profoundly linked and interdependent.

Why does it matter?

Because the vast majority of emerging infectious threats are zoonotic, born precisely at the volatile interface where human expansion, animal populations, and changing environments collide. Continuing to train healthcare workers in rigid academic silos is a luxury the modern world can no longer afford.

Integrating One Health principles directly into university curricula is not just an educational upgrade — it is a core pillar of global health security. Turning the initial confusion of today's students into proactive, cross-disciplinary collaboration is exactly how we build a resilient workforce.
